Role in NetRNA
With support by a NetRNA PhD fellowship, the group of Manfred Heinlein will address the plant host factors and molecular mechanisms through which viral movement proteins (MP) suppress dsRNA-induced antiviral immunity. The immunity response interferes with virus cell-to-cell movement by closing plasmodesmata (PD), the gated cell wall channels though which viruses have to pass their genomes in order to spread infection. Using different molecular approaches, the group will isolate the MP interactome from PD and determine the role of identified protein candidates in dsRNA-induced PD regulation and virus movement.
